Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal (Basel Convention)

The goal of the Basel Convention is to protect human health and the environment from the adverse effects of hazardous and other wastes. To this end, the Convention pursues three key objectives:

to reduce transboundary movements of hazardous wastes to a minimum, consistent with their environmentally sound management;

to dispose of these wastes as close as possible to where they are generated;

to minimize both their quantity and their hazardousness.
