ABSTRACT

The mission of the Earth Council is to support and empower people in building a more secure, equitable, and sustainable future. It has the following main objectives:

to promote the alleviation of poverty as an ethical imperative and as an important component of building a more secure and conflict-free global society;

to provide bridges for partnership and collaboration between individuals, governments, organizations, and institutions, so as to ensure the full participation of civil societies in the processes of globalization and provide an active voice to those that will experience the changes produced by global processes;

to encourage informed public participation and capacity building, in accessible and transparent decision-making processes, at all levels of governmental, institutional, and private planning and development decisions;

to provide creative, inclusive, and accessible alternative dispute resolution in transnational disputes involving natural resources;

to promote and implement a commonvalues framework as a guide for the multiple nations and actors impacting uponsustainability and to insert the principle ofthe ‘common good’ as an integral component of our global future;

to promote awareness, and provide education and training to achieve more sustainable, equitable, and enduring development and communities of life.
