ABSTRACT
TheVuotos Casehas been one of the longest and best-known environmental struggles in Finland. 1 It has highlighted the changed legal environment in the country, inasmuch as international and European Community (EC) law has very much influenced how the case was finally resolved. Although the Finnish Water Act was invoked by the courts as the main basis for their decision,Vuotosis a good example of how much the legal environment of Finland has changed, for the case hinged on not only the Finnish Water Act but also international and Community law.
