ABSTRACT

Through years of experience within the home–school sphere a number of issues have always seemed worthy of further interest and exploration. One such issue that has increasingly interested the author is that of the underdeveloped role of the ‘pupil’ within the home–school debate. Despite the obvious presence of pupils within the home–school rhetoric they are almost invariably overlooked in practice. Most home–school activity appears to be carried out, either literally or metaphorically speaking, over the heads of pupils, as if they really did not exist.
