ABSTRACT
The purpose of this chapter is to provide a concise background to the relevance of play in a child’s development and education. It describes a model of Play Based Assessment (PBA) which can be used by parents, carers and professionals. Observation and participatory play form the basis of this approach and have been structured to assist the assessor. This chapter explores the potential for its use with children across cultural boundaries.
