ABSTRACT

It is hard to define what is meant by stress, as it is a commonly used term meaning many different things to different people; it may be the environmental or psychological demand, the inner state of mind and/or the physical reactions to such pressures. Additionally, as Maurice Chazan points out, (Varma 1996) there can be different levels of stress, and children have a huge range of individual differences in their vulnerability to or ability to cope with adverse events, so it becomes hard to separate out the relationship between cause and effect for any child or group.
