ABSTRACT

A French lesson is underway. The class, a mixed ability Year 8 group, are working through worksheets. One student raises a hand. The surprising question is: ‘Sir, how can the Bible be true, what with the way we get taught history?’ As the questioner seems serious, the teacher tries to show respect for the question while suggesting that it might be more appropriate to another occasion. The response is another totally unexpected question: ‘Sir, are you afraid of dying?’
