ABSTRACT

The revised National Curriculum fought shy of mentioning energy at Key Stages 1 and 2 (DfE 1995). The authors thought the concept was too complex to be tackled with young children. We argue in this chapter that not only is energy a very approachable concept, once we take the confusions and misconceptions into account, but also it is a word used by most five year olds, and if we don’t develop their understanding during their primary years the misconceptions and confusions will remain with them.
