ABSTRACT

Paradoxical, gives the mathematical bias that pervaded early assumptions about what computers are actually good at, and given the current pressure placed on student teachers and NOF-trained teachers to incorporate the use of Information and communication technology (ICT) into core subjects. Internet access is fast enough to initiate, sustain and support real-time classroom activities, or video-conferencing will enable people to link your class routinely with others elsewhere, but neither of those possibilities is likely to optimise the benefits of good interactive teaching. At the time of writing, interactive whiteboard systems are far too expensive to be a realistic option for immediate installation in all classrooms so projectors can be used to project video as well. A versatile alternative to a data projector is a Cruiser laptop computer which is the device used in the research. The lesson was expected to follow oral and mental starter, main teaching and pupil activity and the plenary as suggested in the National Numeracy Strategy.
