Newly qualified teachers need regular assessment of – and feedback on – their teaching, their progress and the learning undertaken by their pupils. Informal, ‘light-touch’ observation and feedback will occur as part of the day-to-day discourse with induction tutors. However, a formal routine of observation and review is a process that has both formative and summative dimensions, as you will have found during your initial teacher training.
