The perceived distance between the home and school can lead to interactions between parents and school staff characterised by defensiveness, lack of cooperation and at times open aggression and conflict … if a relationship of confidence, friendliness and mutual support has not been previously established such parent-teacher meetings can become a confrontation rather than a dialogue held for the benefit of the child.
