Mark, at the age of six, was able to write the following, after having the story of Jack and the Beanstalk read to him:

‘She {Jacks mother} was terrified when she saw him with the parsnips and threw them out the window so from now on he only got 4 meals a day. The next day everything was Greenesh, he rubbed his Eyes and everything was still Greenesh. He opened the window and climbed up the sunflower until he got up to the top he found himself in a house 1 sign said straigt onto goldland and 1 mile later said this way to silver land and on another it said this way to bronze land, he went to gold land 1st and found a hen that laed silver eggs he nearly got caught by a monster 2nd he went to silver land and found a bag of gold and nearly got caught by some spirit and finally he went to bronze land and found a singing harp and again he nearly got caught by a spirit. The singing harp, the bag of gold and the hen that layed silver eggs was shown to James mum and she was delighted to see Jack alive and with his father’s things and from now on they were very rich and they were happily ever after. 1
