ABSTRACT

In the two parts of this chapter, on businesses and trade unions, we consider the changes taking place in business, labour and education as a consequence of the ideas contained in the vision and principles of sustainable development. We question the adequacy of the changes to date and the extent to which they contribute to a more sustainable society. These ideas provide a background to discussion about the contribution of education for sustainability (EFS) as it affects management and labour and, in turn, how education shapes business organizations. In the overall conclusion, we outline the need for education that is prepared to elaborate ‘new’ models of the world from which managers and labour can learn in order to understand and interpret change for sustainability.
