ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the participatory methodologies used to increase the accountability of one NGO to the village institutions and communities which it professes to support and serve. The case study used is the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme in India. The problems which are likely to occur in using these methods are highlighted, and mechanisms are explored which may help NGOs to introduce and increase accountability to grassroots institutions.
