ABSTRACT
In the highlands of North-west Cameroon, one farmer tackled soil fertility problems by developing a system of keeping cattle overnight on fields to be cultivated. This set off a chain of innovations by other farmers, such as a new tool to handle the increased harvests, an irrigation system to take fuller advantage of the fertilized areas and growing fodder for the cattle. It also improved relations between farmers and herders.
