ABSTRACT
Apart from describing the practical and institutional features of mission work—in this case Episcopalian—amongst the Native American peoples of Minnesota and Wisconsin in the 1850s, this discussion by an Englishman familiar with American missionaries is revealing in its tone. It is unswervingly confident in its characterization of Native Americans, in the value of the Christian civilization being offered to them and in the unquestionable progress achieved.
