ABSTRACT
This description by an anthropologist in the 1930s of the Sun Dance amongst the Shoshone reveals continued commitment to the curative powers of ritual, eclectically drawn from a variety of Native American sources through the progressive extension of the Sun Dance. Yet the Shoshone could also see the ritual in Christian terms.
