ABSTRACT
Polish Catholic immigrants were renowned for the fervour of their religion. In their homeland, the Church had been the core of their nationality under Russian rule. It remained central to maintaining their cohesiveness as a group in the New World. Hence the institutional density of the Poles as a religious community.
