ABSTRACT
The interest of this personal narrative of involvement with Vedanta is twofold. It links the author, through her mother, with the earliest important missionary of Hinduism in the United States, Swami Vivekananda (1862-1902). He created the Vedanta Society in 1897. The account also illustrates how Vedanta could be harmonized with strands in western religious and philosophical thought.
