ABSTRACT

In a plea for the evangelization of slaves, the argument reproduced below attempts to meet a recurrent fear of slave-owners, that it was against God's law to hold a baptized Christian in slavery. The writer not only makes use of biblical texts to prove the compatibility of a slave's Christianity and his status, but implies that to open the truth of God's word to slaves justifies the slave-owner and offers the slave a spiritual freedom without affecting his worldly position.
