ABSTRACT

After leading a separation from the Society of Friends in 1692, George Keith was unable to maintain his 'Christian Quakers' in being and became an Anglican clergyman in 1700. He acted as the first S.P.G. missionary in the colonies, travelling down much of the Atlantic seaboard. He was thus in a position to summarize the Anglican situation at the beginning of the eighteenth century.
