ABSTRACT

Solar air heating systems use air to transport heat in order to warm spaces, directly or indirectly, to heat ventilation air or heat domestic hot water. Some systems can also be reversed and draw air out of spaces by means of the chimney effect to induce cooling in summer. In contrast to solar water systems, air systems often make use of the following building elements, thereby saving costs:

the building envelope: facade-or roof-integrated collectors, window collectors and double envelope constructions;

the structure: concrete construction with air channels or hollow masonry elements as part of the bearing or carrying structure of the building;

occupied spaces: su s, glazed loggias or atria for solar collection, distribution and storage.
