ABSTRACT

On the last southerly inclination of the Djebel Ansariye mountain range, overlooking the plain of Bukeia, which divides the Djebel Ansariye, in Syria, from the Djebel Libani, in northern Lebanon. This break in the mountain chains of the Levant, over which Krak des Chevaliers has commanding views, is known as the Homs Gap, and forms a natural access route linking the strategic inland city of Homs, some thirty kilometers to the southeast, with the Mediterranean coast, some forty kilometers to the west.
