Cyrene (Gebel Akhdar, Libya)

On the narrow coastal plain of northeast Libya; extensive sand deserts lie to the east, south, and west; on the site of present-day Shaḥḥāt. The Mediterranean Sea is eight miles to the north of the ancient city site.
