ABSTRACT

The Reich Office for the Combating of Homosexuality and Abortion belonged to a system of fifteen central registration offices which were either taken over from departments existing before 1933 in the Prussian Land Criminal Police Bureau (LKPA), or else founded in 1936 in the course of the reorganization of the Criminal Police. Their basis was provided by already existing police records departments. These Reich Offices were locked into the Reich Criminal Police Bureau (RKPA). After the beginning of the war, the Criminal Police department at the Headquarters of the Security Police was merged with the RKPA in the Reich Security Headquarters (Reichssicherheitshauptamt — RSHA), the terror centre of the SS. From then on, the various Reich Offices belonged to Bureau V for the Combating of Crime (the original RKPA).
