ABSTRACT

This paper presents the results of experimental research to develop a type testing procedure for inverters in the United Kingdom. The project is funded jointly by the Department of Trade and Industry, the PV industry and the electricity supply industry. The primary purpose of the project is to establish the performance requirements of PV inverters that will allow them to be accepted by the electric utility without further site commissions tests. The results have important implications for the acceptability of PV as an energy source in the UK and for the likely costs of installing such a system, and will help to standardise the planning process, as well as the installation and approving grid-connected PV systems. This is essential if PV is to be widely seen on buildings within the UK.
