ABSTRACT
The diesel-electric power supply to the Montague Island nature reserve has been replaced by a photovoltaic/diesel/battery hybrid system, resulting in 87% decrease in fuel use with attendant reduction in environmental risk. Thorough electrical and environmental monitoring is carried out to enable improvements and for educational purposes. System performance and load management are reviewed.
