ABSTRACT

Renewable energy sources are often the most economical option for electrification in rural areas where the grid connection is expensive or even impossible. The use of different energy sources such as photovoltaic panels, diesel generators, etc. allows to improve the system efficiency and the reliability of the energy supply compared to systems comprising only one single renewable energy source. A point of general concern is the high cost of renewable energy-based stand-alone systems. A main objective consists therefore in finding a control scheme which minimises the waste of renewable energies while maximising the system efficiency and utilisation of the installed capacities.
