ABSTRACT

Goethe-Gymnasium Frankfurt (Main) founded a photovoltaic-working-group eight years ago to enable students of upper schools to attain a reasonable degree of competence in the current discussions in the field of renewable energies. In a common education and training project with an English school we have started to work out a syllabus for solar energy which is under permanent development. The project includes theory of solid state physics for photosensitive materials, experiments with solar cells and wind tubine-models, and excursions to commercial solar energy and wind turbine systems as well. Furthermore, students should become familiar with world-wide energy problems and get case studies for possible solutions of these problems.
