ABSTRACT

PV 2010 was published in 1996, and has become a "bench-mark" document on Photovoltaics. 10,000 copies were printed and distributed by the European Commission. This study is being updated to take into account the many changes in the European and global PV markets and to bring it into line with the current and expected future PV projections - in terms of EU and national PV targets, PV industry, and end-users. The key objectives of the updated PV 2010 report are in-depth analyses of the supply and demand structures of the PV sector, in order to create a greater understanding of, and attracting increased investment into, the EU PV industry. As part of this action an Observatory will be created to support the European Commission and EPIA in the dynamic formulation and evaluation of strategic policies/scenarios. The aim of this Observatory is to build, sustain and increase the world-wide PV market share of the European PV industry through the continuous monitoring and evaluation of PV demand and supply. In today's rapidly changing world economic climate, this is an appropriate time to consider refocusing PV 2010 and obtaining more detailed information to enable the European PV industry to have a more accurate base for planning future strategies and direction.
