ABSTRACT

The Italian roof-top Program, jointly realised and defined by the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of the Environment and ENEA, is intended to widely diffuse the roof-top technology in the Italian web, by means of the installation of a very large number (10,000) of PV systems for distributed generation in five years, with a total capacity of 50 MW. The Program, whose starting has been delayed to this summer, will be managed and monitored by ENEA and will be financed by the Italian Government. In the mean-while, some fundamental preliminary and collateral activities have been started by ENEA, in order to make the Program effective as much as possible. Among them, technical and demonstrative actions, as well as training and advertising programs, are the most important ones. For instance, the Program guidelines have been defined and the preparation of a technical handbook is almost completed. In addition, specific demonstrative and experimental activities have been started, to disseminate pilot plants all over Italy. At present, 21 small systems, for a total power of 50 kW, are under installation in some important Italian cities, five out of them are indeed in operation. Program preliminary and collateral activities, progress in overcoming recognised barriers and first results are discussed in the paper.
