ABSTRACT

It is necessary to test small PV-stand-alone-systems, so called Solar Home Systems, to prove their reliability and operation performance. Even if each of the system's components is a product of high quality, the complete system often does not fulfil the user's requirements, or fail completely. Outdoor monitoring of systems operating under local environmental conditions is a time-intensive method to evaluate the systems. The results obtained in different regions of the world are difficult to compare. Unexpected meteorological conditions and nonreproducible results make it more difficult to obtain a general statement of a Solar Home System's function. This made it necessary to set up an Indoor Test Facility to verify test procedures for system approval.
