ABSTRACT

Satellite remote sensing could potentially span entire continents, in real time, with high ground resolution. This paper investigates geostationary satellites to monitor the performance of ground-based PV arrays. A comparison between the actual output of photovoltaic (PV) power plants and satellite-simulated output estimates is presented. The paper shows evidence that the satellite resource can adequately monitor PV performance and detect potential problems and strengthen the credibility of ongoing remote PV monitoring efforts (e.g., [1,2])
