ABSTRACT

High efficiency high concentrator (above 1000X) solar cells are emerging as a real alternative for dropping PV costs. The development of such a family of photovoltaic converters demands specific characterisation tools able to provide high illumination fluxes in an efficient accurate and simple fashion. The purpose of this work is to describe a very simple and low cost flashlamp based system for the characterisation of very high concentrator III-V solar cells at a wide range of concentration levels (25X - 4000X). Such a system produces results in excellent agreement with those of more elaborated techniques.
