ABSTRACT
Wind energy has been a source of power for mankind for many thousands of years. Its origins are lost in antiquity but there are early records of windmills dating back to Persian times and throughout the middle ages wind was used to grind corn, pump water and facilitate worldwide travel in sailing ships. The gradual decline of wind energy during the industrial revolution was largely due to the availability of cheaper and more compact sources of power such as the steam engine.
