ABSTRACT
Photovoltaics, 20th century technology poised to reach full maturity in the 21st, provides a simple, reliable and elegant way of converting sunlight directly into electricity. When entering a typical photovoltaic solar cell (Figure 6.1), the photons constituting sunlight release electrons that can then flow through an electrical load connected between the positive and negative terminals of the solar cell.
