ABSTRACT
This chapter demonstrates how technical analyses of plant remains help archaeologists reconstruct different aspects of ancient civilization, including subsistence patterns, fuel use, house construction, and the cultivation and domestication of agricultural crops. The examples here are drawn primarily from North and South American archaeology rather than Old World archaeology, where comparable research is in progress.
