ABSTRACT
This chapter is an example of how surviving organic materials can convey information about ancient cultures, and describes methods of analysis for retrieving that information. It is an introduction to one aspect of the complex and rapidly growing subdiscipline of ancient bone chemistry that includes analyses of various stable isotopes and the extraction of DNA. The references provide access to more technical literature and the names of key journals.
