ABSTRACT

This chapter investigates when, where and how accidents occur and how elderly people experience the period after the accident. 63 % of the out-door accidents occurred in streets, on pavements and in car parks. Many of the elderly persons reported that they had fallen because of slipperiness outside stores, post- and bank-offices. To a few the contacts with relatives and friends had changed into the better. The relatives often visited them and phoned them. These people experienced that the accident had given them something positive. 55 % of the accidents were related to factors in the environment. This means that it would be possible to prevent a great number of accidents.
