ABSTRACT

The rapid development of motor transport has created completely new problems in urban planning. At the very beginning a car as byword of modernity and comfort has been accepted enthusiastically both by its users and society. In the past few years, however, the number of cars in towns has already gone beyond the limits of ecological resistance of the environment, in the broad sense of the word. The best solution of protecting all pedestrians from weathering is developing designs of roofed, glazed pedestrian walks. There have already been provided the whole systems of roofed passages which enable elderly and disabled people to cover quite long distances and access to many service centers in a town. A considerable speed of pedestrian traffic on pavements interfere with a slower mobility pace of elderly and disabled people. Taking into account the safety of this group of pedestrians it seems useful to provide a protected lane for them.
