ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an introduction to the nature of the CT sector in the UK and the potential for computerisation of service administration and operations. It describes the involvement of the sector in the design and development of MULTI TRIP, highlighting the high level of collaboration with a range of different organisations, and, for those unused to systems analysis techniques, describes and illustrates two of the techniques used in this process. The chapter provides a brief summary and outlines the next steps in the development of MULTI TRIP. MULTI TRIP needs to be modular, so that operators of a single service can buy the software module that relates to their service, and to be integrated, so that operators of multiple services can buy more than one module and know that any modules they buy will work together. The diary takes advantage of the PICK file structure which allows for variable length records and for attributes (fields) to contain multiple values.
