ABSTRACT

Short stature may be a sign of disorder and also a cause of distress to children. Clinicians therefore seek both to prevent growth failure and to treat it whenever possible. In order to provide the necessary service to all children in a community, they need to know the answer to a number of questions and only epidemiological methods are able to provide these.
