ABSTRACT

The Diabetes Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire (DTSQ) has been specifically designed to measure satisfaction with diabetes treatment regimens in people with diabetes. The version of the scales presented here is appropriate for patients with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. The scales were originally designed to evaluate changes in satisfaction with changes in treatment regimen and the present version of the scales is also appropriate for comparing satisfaction levels in patients using different treatment regimens. The scales have been shown to be useful in clinical trials evaluating new technologies for insulin delivery including continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) pumps (Bradley et al., 1992; Jennings et al., 1991) and other devices (Menzel et al., 1990), introduction of insulin for patients with tablet-treated diabetes (Bradley and Lewis, 1990; Jennings et al., 1991), and the effects of a diabetes education programme (Lewis, 1994). More recently the scales have been widely used as one outcome indicator in routine audit of diabetes care.
