ABSTRACT
Alvin Ailey’s life is a lesson in how to make beauty with a buzz (saw). How Ailey “got that way” goes back to his encounters with Lester Horton and with Horton’s pupils Carmen de Lavallade and the author. Dance history was made excruciatingly painful but, in retrospect, worth it by this twentieth century Mercury.
