ABSTRACT

There were many times during the clandestine deliberations of the History Working Group when it looked for all the world as if History would be once again be conceived of as a solid diet of facts, dates — and yet more facts. For those privileged to work with children in the classroom on historical investigations which truly fired their interest and enthusiasm the Report's statement that we "need to reveal to pupils that history is interesting, exciting and enjoyable" (DES, 1990) did however, give some comfort.
