ABSTRACT

Technology is often presented to us amidst an aura of popular mythology. It is presented as something very much of the moment, of today, as a feature of contemporary life which is almost without history. It is presented as amazing, revolutionary, completely changing, in a way that has never occurred before, our way of life. It is presented as being moved forward by the genius of individual inventors, ignoring their historical context to make their breakthrough. It is presented as universally beneficial. As the only authentic value in a faithless age. In all these there is some truth and much untruth.
