ABSTRACT

My relationship with Matsemela goes back to 1977 when we met in Soweto. We were discussing the idea of creating a home for black artists at a time when the South African Film and Theatre Union was for whites only. Matsemela, Maishe Maponya, Sipho Sepamla and I were instrumental in forming the Federated Union of Black Artists (Fuba). At the time, though, there were more funds available for the school than for the union.
