ABSTRACT

Music Performance Research Centre Administrator The second Music Performance Research Centre Yearbook Reflections is published just ten years after the MPRC was launched as the first service of its kind, in 1987. The MPRC’s Administrator, Jon Tolansky, here outlines the Centre’s history, purpose and operations. The Music Performance Research Centre’s origins go back to 1982 when a group of musicians initiated informal discussions for the creation of archive of public performances. In 1990 it became legally possible for the MPRC to accept donations of unique recordings of broadcast relays of public performances that had been taken down off-air privately. The MPRC gives the public a free listening, viewing and research service at the MPRC Studio. The Corporation of London has generously provided space within the Barbican Library for several listening and viewing booths. In education the MPRC is forming an on-going relationship with Trinity College of Music, where it has already initiated its talks and lectures with distinguished performing artists.
