ABSTRACT

The tenor Jon Vickers, who recently celebrated his 70th birthday, has for the last forty years been regarded as one of this century’s greatest singers of opera, oratorio and lieder. The Music Performance Research Centre The Home of Britain’s Music Performance Heritage The Music Performance Research Centre is the most important single source for scholars and musicians alike to listen to our live performance heritage” - Sir Georg Solti. The Music Performance Research Centre (MPRC) was created in 1987 to preserve for posterity the United Kingdom’s heritage of public performances: past, present and future. In 1989 the MPRC Studio was built in the Barbican Centre’s Music Library, and there, free of charge, the public can hear, and in some instances see, unique, unduplicated archive-recordings of live music performances dating from the 1930’s to the present. Now with the pathetic quality of the castrati, as they got older they recognised they were freaks, and so they were immensely popular.
