ABSTRACT

After the political changes in Lithuania, problems related to the creative arts did not disappear. They torment me now just as they did before. I have always thought that true art is not born independently of political, economic, or social conditions. Take for instance Shostakovich's music during the blockade of Leningrad. What will change in the actor's profession if a computer is installed in the rehearsal studio? Will actors act better? Now, many say that the symbols and metaphors of the theater in former times were a way of deceiving the authorities. But metaphor is not guerrilla warfare. I did not deceive anybody when working in the theater. I was sincere. And now I am doing the same things; I like metaphors on the stage.
